Sat
10th - Jailsalmer
Arrived
in Jailsalmere at about 5.30am, had a car there to pick us up and
take us to hotel (rs150 per night). We sat on the rooftop and
watched the sun rise drinking cup after cup of milky sweet chai. It
was nice and relaxing apart from the hotel boys trying their luck
with anna and hasseling us into booking their Camel Safari tour,
eventually we gave in, tierd and weary and paid up for a tour they
promised to be tourist free and 'life changing'. We pulled ourselved
together and got out of the hotel, venturing off on a walk around
Jaisalmers main attraction, the Fort.
It is a wonderful maze of
little streets full of houses, shops and restaruants. Walked to the
end of an alley and got asked into a house by a boy who turned out to
be 17 but looked more like 12. He introduced us to his mother and
showed us around his house and asked us to take pictures, which we
did as it was lovely but of course he wanted rs 10, which we gave
him for the pleasure.
Wandered around for most of the morning and
then investigated the streets surounding the fort. The architecture
here is amazing, very intricate and many of the streets are paved
with stone. I got snotted on by a cow which wasn't very pleasant but
at least I mamaged to jump out of its way when it tried to head butt
me. There are many fresh paintings of Ganesh on all the houses in
preparation for devali which is really soon! We decided to have a
lazy late afternoon on the roof top of our hotel and wait until the
sun went down abit before we ventured out again to watch the sunset from the Fort.
